Hunting

From ancient times the Sayn-Wittgenstein Family has distinguished itself by a high passion for hunting. This also includes the intensive care and protection of wildlife in the own area. As a result, a high and healthy population developed in Ditzrod.

Over the last 10 years we have, step by step, professionalised hunting in the Forest Estate by developing improved wildlife management. Thus, today we can offer our guests two to three high quality hunting days in one of the regions in North Rhine-Westphalia most abounding in forests and in game. The species being hunted comprise red deer, roe deer, wild boar, fox and raccoon.

The hunt is organised as a variation of the driving hunting method whereby the animals are slowly moved or pushed out of their bedding areas by several groups of drivers and dogs. Then the service of four packs of hunting dogs, each consisting of up to 45 dogs, is used. All hunting stands are clearly marked and provided with definite warning notices in order to exclude any endangerment.

Our guests are picked up in the hotels (located in close vicinity) by our minibuses for having a morning welcome. After that they are taken to their stands and picked up from there again. After two drivings a lunch is served, after the third driving tea and cake are offered before presenting the kill.

As in Ditzrod we have completely wild game populations living in the open (and not in a fenced preserve), a kill guarantee cannot be given. The care and protection of game is the district forester's duty. Further details concerning the average kills of the last years are readily given upon request.

The hunting group can consist of up to 30 guns.

We will be pleased in submitting an individual offer to you. We recommend a reservation in good time because only a limited number of hunting days is available.
